Unity Tutorial 04

Image
Reading Week Unity Tutorials Screenshot of me working in my unity I have just finished another Unity tutorial and I have to say they are getting more tricky and there is more code being used but I’m managing it so far. I’m re-watching any bits that I am not sure or that I feel uncomfortable with. I think that making our own game is going to be a big challenge but thankfully we can all look back at the Unity  tutorials if we need help. This week I have fully completed another game and along with that I had a challenge to do after to see what I have learned and how I have progressed over the few tutorials from when I did the first challenge. I followed the videos for finishing the game without much problems, however the challenging got me stuck a few times. I was happy because I was able to figure out the first few steps on my own but then had to look for some guidelines and help. I always find the hints provided very useful and to look back at my other projects and code. I also watch

Unity Tutorial 03

Image
Created An Animal Game Screenshot of my Unity I am learning more and more with every little video. I like how we make a new game every time so that we can learn many different features of Unity and at the same time practice what we have learned before. Making this game of animal feeding was fun and made me more comfortable towards my own game idea. I didn’t have any big problems with this week’s Unity tutorials and enjoyed doing it. Like always it was easy to follow along with the videos and everything was clear. I find the coding getting a bit more complicated now and we constantly learn a lot of new codes which is tricky but the videos explain and give a reason for everything which makes it more understanding. This week we have learned how to randomly duplicate some game objects and how to destroy any objects that leave the platform. We have looked at the "if statement" which we have used in many situations to develop our game. We practiced creating some new folders and

Game Vision Statement

Image
My Game Vision A quick sketch of my game idea After some brainstorming and researching, I have decided on my game idea and now can start to look into it more in depth. Although my idea is based on the games below and it will have the same controls and very alike gameplay, it won't be the same game as "Coin Rush" for example because I will be making my own version of the game. My main goal is to make the game more fun and interactive for the players, I want to add some adrenaline and rush to my own version of the game to make it more entertaining but not frustrating.  In my version the player will be a ball of ice and will have to complete the laid out course on a platform before the ball melts in order to complete the game. The player will have to balance the ball and hit certain objects to get through to the finish line, however the game will be over once the player drops the ball, hits an object that will make it crash or if the ball melts before reaching the finish lin

Tech Task Meme Generator

Creating a Meme My meme Image link Created on : ImgFlip.com This is a meme I have created for fun using "ImgFlip.com". It was easy to do and there were alot of examples to inspire you which was very helpful. I have created in this because the image made me think og my mum and how she loves tea and can't live or function right with out so I thought it would be funny to do it as a task.

Games MDA

Image
Games MDA Game Dice Image source  links: MDA: A Formal Approach to Game Design and Game Research. Youtube video Addictional video It is shocking the amount of thought that goes into each game, all the procedures and different test each game goes through. The first reading was telling us about the MDN and was very detailed. There is a lot to it and I found it a bit hard to read about it, probably because as a play a certain game, I don't think about the theory part of the game or how it was developed. As a person who games a little bit for fun, I look at the more visible part of the game like the graphics or the story. I found the Youtube video very good as it helped me to understand the MDA in games. It made the reading above more clear and more comprehensive. The MDA stands for "Mechanic, Dynamic, Aesthetics" and from the video. I Learned that as a game designer we only have control on the mechanic in the game which then decides how the player will experience the game a

Game Idea Research

Pick ONE Game Idea Thinking Creative Image Source It is very difficult when you have to pick one idea out of four and can be frustrated if there is two you really like but after having a read through my last blog post about my game design ideas I decided to go with my idea number 2. I was thinking a bit too much on which idea is my favourite rather than focussing on which idea I would be capable of doing and enjoy doing the most. I want to be able to make the game and don't want to go too hard on myself since it will be my first game ever made by myself. I figure this game idea will allow me to be creative and have fun at the same time. I had taken a look at some tutorials and felt the most comfortable with this game option. I was really thinking about picking my last game idea the Toast racing game but I'm not sure if I will be capable of creating it because it is too early to say after just a few Unity tutorials.  Based on: Ball Balance Coin Rush Ball 3D My game idea number

Learning about Feedback Strategies

Image
Let's give better Feedback Effective Feedback Guide Image Source Link to the first article:   Try Feedforward Instead of Feedback I never thought of feedback in such a way like I do now. I didn't think that even the work feedback might not be the best way to call this term and that often people might not progress from it if given wrong. I haven't heard of "Feedforward" before, it was never used in my school or projects and if it was then I just treated it as a regular feedback. The reading makes a good point because many times we might even know ourselves that something is wrong or could be done better but we might not know what the right way is to do it.  Feelforward focusses on showing people what is the right way of avoiding the wrong and how one can be successful. It is stated that people don't take feelforward as personally as feedback which means it doesn't put them down or criticise their work completely but shows how is can be improved and people

Unity Tutorial 02

Image
Unity Tutorial part 2  Unity Logo Image Source I just have completed the second tutorial of Unity and I'm slowly starting to get more comfortable with the program and the instructions start to make more sense. Although I am following the video tutorials well, I don't feel comfortable enough to go ahead and work with Unity on my own. I am a bit nervous because despite the fact that I like Unity I lack a little bit of belief in myself to work on my own game without the Unity tutorials. The second part of the game that we are currently creating in Unity was easy and fast enough to do. I enjoy to see the progress we make with every little video and like how it is all coming together. I find the explanation in the videos very helpful as they help you to understand the purpose of a certain code etc. The videos are up to scratch and facile to follow, with just a few short little videos I was able to make the vehicle rotate correctly and control the speed. I felt like the plane challen

Game Elements

Image
Reading about game elements Game controller  Image source Links to the readings: What are the qualities of Games? Game design research Video link The game is composed of many different elements, there are elements such as atomic Elements which refer to players, objectives, rules, etc. There are the things we focus on when we are thinking of making a game. However it is hard to be specific about what are the actual atoms of the game in the same way as it is hard to give a proper definition of what is a game. Critical analysis for a game differs a lot compared to other critical reviews for other things like food for example. A game is reviewed under a more positive way rather than negative. The point of the review of a game is to make it better and learn what works and what doesn't instead of giving it a star review. In my opinion I think the critical review for a game is more of a game test and improvement.   The reading of "Game design research" is very detailed. Persona

My Feedback Thoughts on Articles

Image
Learning From Mistakes Image Quote Image Source Link to  Why it’s so hard to hear negative feedback This article points out some interesting points of how giving negative feedback to someone affects both sides. It is a curious question why we find it hard to listen to negative feedback, if it is actually something that can make us better and lets us know where and how we can improve. Negative feedback is as important as positive but we only like to hear the good things about us. The articles states that we should think about how to give negative feedback correctly. It seems that at times negative feedback is not given in the right way. The article says that we should be fully honest and open, things shouldn't be sugar-coated. I like how the article trys to change your mind about negative feedback so that learn to improve from it. I understand the point of view the article is trying to get across and think that we should try to teach our self how to accept negative feedback and th

Time for a Game Brainstorm

Image
Let's get started! Brainstorming spider diagram Image source Idea 1: Online  Rubik's Cube My first idea for a game comes from my childhood rather than internet research. I used to simply call it "The Colour Blocks" but would like to change the name to something more interesting. It's a game similar to a Rubik's cube as you have to sort out each colour in its place. It's a fairly simple yet educational type of game in my opinion. I think it could be a nice game for anyone to play and have fun with it. It is easy to play and it's a good mind game that doesn't require any magnificent gaming skills or knowledge. I really enjoyed playing it when I was younger using colourful building blocks that I had. Since I have the opportunity to make my first game, I would like to consider this one and turn it into a video game. The game has a square platform and starts off with 4 rows that consist of 4 blocks except the last row which has only 3 blocks. Each row

My first Unity Tutorial 01

Image
Learning how to use Unity  Unity Logo Image Source I have completed my first Unity tutorials and I must admit it was a fun and very educational experience. The videos are great help and easy to follow. I like how they are straight to the point and everything is explained. I found the recap at the end of each videos very useful as it went over quickly of what we just did and have learned. The steps at the bottom helped me out if I wasn't sure of something or got stuck on a certain part. In my opinion it's the best online video tutorial that I have ever came across. It made it all a lot more do-able and I learned many features. I have done so much in just a few little videos that it is shocking. I really enjoyed using Unity, think it is very handy and easy to follow. It allows you to edit the whole layout to your own preference and to give you better experience. The first few lessons were very basic steps which really helped me to get comfortable with the Unity functions and oper

Game Design

Image
Reading about Games Type of a game Image source After doing the reading, I realised that there is a lot more to games than just a good idea, plan and software tools. I think that the question in the first reading "what is a game" is an extremely hard question to answer because it can mean something different for everyone. The truth is that most things in our life that we interact with a lot will have a different meaning to an individual. For someone a game might be nothing more than just a little fun way to complete a level or task and move on to the next one. Gamers see it as being part of their life, their break from reality, a brain exercise etc. There are some people that don't find a big interest in games and will have an even more different opinion on "what is a game?" I myself like gaming, I do it often if I have the time however thankfully I never get obsessed which means I can play whenever I have time and still be have my chores done. In my case I wou

Time Strategies

Image
Time management Multi-tasking Image soure After I have read these two links: The Important Habit of Just Starting by Jory Mackay How to Beat Procrastination by Caroline Webb I think I have a slightly better idea on my time management schedule. Staying organised and not falling behind is very important so you can balance out your time and stay on top of things. I will try to stick to my timetable more than I did last year and try to get some free time for myself to give my mind a break. In order not to procrastinate I will break down the tasks, assignments so I get them done faster which will make me more focused on my next task.

Response to some Technology Tools

Image
Impressions on Technology Tools I am familiar with some of the tools mentioned there which is good because it means it will be easier for me to use them and I will feel more confident learning how to do tasks on them. I'm looking forward to explore all those different tools and hope they will help me out in future for design. I like using such tools because it allows you to create and design things better and allows you to improve.

My response to Assignments

Image
My first impressions Person working on their laptop Image source   My first impressions were positive because the module looks very interesting and everything seems to be clear and to the point. I like how we got a whole website created for us to make it easier for us to find out and preform each as I am not a fan of moodle especially after the update.  So far I feel ok about the assignments upcoming in this module because we receive clear instructions. This module is making us use a lot of tools like Blogger and Twitter unlike other modules that focus more on adobe tools. The tasks here are more about writing than designing or drawing. There is a few extra credit tasks that grab my attention like "Growth Mindset" and "Tech tasks"

Why our Growth Mindset is so important

Image
Develop the Growth Mindset Fixed vs Growth Mindset Growth mindset Pinterest  Unfortunately  I have never heard of Carol Dweck but I found her speech very interesting and it shows that she really wants to get the message out for the good sake of children and young people. Dweck is shows us proof such as studies that were preformed and gives us her own life experience which has a very big effect on her audience and leaves that thought of "growth mindset" and "fixed mindset" in our head. Carol Dweck really changes your point of view toward education and makes you realise that you spent time to achieve good grands rather than education. As a former secondary student I fully agree with her opinion and wish it all schools could have the same opinion on it. Education in primary and secondary school is all focused on getting the highest grade rather than actually learning and wanting to improve your knowledge. Therefore I think that secondary school has put me into this fi

Introduction to a Future Designer

Image
Introduction Hi pink figure Hi pink figure Hi so it has been a while since I first started the  Creative Digital Media course in College. This course has taught me so much and there is so much more to learn. It is a very creative and fun course. Year 1 was interesting and became very challenging when Covid entered. There was a lot of late night works and was filled with assignments but I did it and now I am in second year.  I'm looking forward to this module because I like games and always was interesting in some game designs but never decided to take on this task on my own with any help. I feel that this module will answer my question about game design and career in multimedia.   There were some really good tasks that I enjoyed and did very well in like photography which changes your point of view on everyday objects and for me it woke up my eye for photography. Image manipulation was a very fun and entertaining task as it allowed you to create something out of this world and it
