Learning about Feedback Strategies

 Let's give better Feedback

Effective Feedback Guide

I never thought of feedback in such a way like I do now. I didn't think that even the work feedback might not be the best way to call this term and that often people might not progress from it if given wrong. I haven't heard of "Feedforward" before, it was never used in my school or projects and if it was then I just treated it as a regular feedback. The reading makes a good point because many times we might even know ourselves that something is wrong or could be done better but we might not know what the right way is to do it. Feelforward focusses on showing people what is the right way of avoiding the wrong and how one can be successful. It is stated that people don't take feelforward as personally as feedback which means it doesn't put them down or criticise their work completely but shows how is can be improved and people don't have to receive negative feedback. They listen more to feelforward so it is also more effective than feedback and it is more efficient to use with your peers or team members. I Think this is a good and effective way to help someone improve their work rather than judging their work in a critic way and pulling them down yet expecting them to improve their work.

Link to the second article: Five Reasons to Stop Saying “Good Job!”

"Good Job" is a very common and over-used praise even in adulthood. I feel guilty using it myself as I don't think it is very meaningful or effective. It is useless and manipulating as mentioned in this article but despite that we all say it and we say it too much and in inappropriate situations. Why do we say it then? I agree with the article that it all links in with how we were praised as kids by others. The article states that students who get praised with words like "good job" are less likely to try difficult tasks that they don't feel sure of or to accept failure. Adults and children who are or were praised this way are depending on others to tell them if they did a good job or not. This creates an issue of dependence and it doesn't allow them to challenge themself or progress from failure. This includes losing interest in learning and further actions which reducing the achievement level. I found this piece of reading interesting and shocking because it shows how one little phrase can manipulate a person and have big negative consequences in future.
